OUR COURSES

Rascals of Woburn One-day Taster Course

This one day course will give students an insight into what it would be like to become a groomer, and enable them to better care for their own dog.

The price for the course including a certificate from Rascals of Woburn Grooming Academy is £120.

Level 3 OCN in Dog Grooming (26-day course)

The level 3 OCN Certificate in Dog Grooming teaches basic skills required to work in a commercial dog grooming environment. It is aimed at students looking to have a career in the dog grooming industry, working for themselves or in an established salon. The Certificate is a standalone qualification which includes the Animal first aid qualification.

Students will learn about different grooming and styling techniques, health and safety and working with people and animals. As well as all of the above, students will learn the bathing, drying and grooming process on a vast amount of dog breeds, and will learn basic trimming on a small number of breeds.

We like to recommend that students bring a camera along to take pictures of their grooms, this enables them to see how much they have learnt in the 6 weeks, and it will be the basis for their individual portfolios, comprised of pictures showing before and after grooming styles.

To gain the Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming students will cover these areas:

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing

  • Bathe and clean dogs

  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals

  • Control and restrain animals

  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling

  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat

OCN Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma (approx. 40 day course)

The OCN Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming is a stand-alone, RQF registered qualification and is equivalent to any other Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming on the market. It has been designed specifically for those looking to become professional dog groomers or those who already groom dogs but do not currently hold a nationally recognised qualification.

This qualification is an introductory qualification, however, the level of experience each student has will depend on the length of course they need, i.e., the amount of practical coaching they need to get them to the Level 3 OCN Standard. For experienced groomers wishing to gain the qualification we can tailor the dog grooming course to your needs.

Students have 12 months to complete a Diploma in Dog Grooming qualification.

After initial training students will need to demonstrate accomplished skills in coat preparation. Students will do this by bathing various coat types, drying appropriately per coat type and be able to demonstrate competent grooms on a minimum of 10 different breeds in a minimum of 15 different styles. Students training with Rascals of Woburn Grooming Academy will gain practical skills sufficient to be able to sit the final assessment.

Subjects covered within this qualification include:

  • Welcome, receive and care for customers

  • Health checking a dog

  • Assess, plan and record dog grooming work

  • Canine first aid

  • Carry out styling and finishing of a dog

SEE WHAT OUR PAST STUDENTS HAVE TO SAY...

MELISSA

My time training at Rascals Training Academy was full of fun, laughter and learning. From day one, I was learning the correct techniques for bathing and drying dogs by getting hands-on myself and by day 4, I was already using clippers on a Cockapoo! I didn't really know what to expect when embarking on this journey, having never groomed before. However, any apprehensions I may have had were quickly forgotten thanks to the busy but relaxing atmosphere created by Katie, Leah and Aimee.

Without these three ladies, I wouldn't be grooming full time now to the standard I am and receiving the 5* feedback that I am either. I enjoyed the theory as well as the practical, as it was taught on a level that any person would understand, and they didn't over complicate things which made it feel much easier to comprehend. Thank you to the team at at Rascals for opening this new chapter in my life.

SHARON

I approached Katie at Rascals Academy because I was looking to train as a dog groomer. Rascals helped me by providing a very busy, well organised, popular salon to train in. The team of Katie, Aimee and Leah helped me by sharing their expertise and knowledge with me, which empowered me to groom their customers dogs. This resulted in me achieving my City & Guilds qualification.

One thing I liked was their keenness to help me achieve my goal. I found the whole experience so enjoyable I didn’t want it to end! I would recommend Rascals Academy and the lovely team there to anyone wishing to start out in the dog grooming industry, or indeed anyone wishing to learn more. They are all very talented groomers.

CLARE

I was the first student and I was really excited! I had no idea how intensive the 30 days would be and it was difficult learning to start from the beginning. Katie is a hard task master who will not settle for second best and, to be honest, I did not understand some grooming rules in the beginning - she kept saying that it would just click.

The good thing about Rascals is that you have one-to-one tuition and it pays off. My grooming skills are much better as a result, as opposed to attending a grooming college in a large group. Listen to Katie, she is excellent and has lots of patience.

I have a small, select number of clients now. I groom at their homes, making the experience for dog owners less stressful as they can carry on with their lives, and due to Katie, I can carefully sculpt the dog's coat. The skills she has provided with the number of dogs available make the course a must! Katie had good business sense and she is still a valuable mentor.
